HRB vs Hoovo Load Test: Which Budget RC Battery Performs Better?

The HRB vs Hoovo comparison is an interesting battle between two budget-friendly 4S LiPo battery packs. On paper, the Hoovo appears to have the advantage with a higher advertised 100C rating and slightly more capacity. However, specifications do not always translate into real-world performance.

Hoovo 5200mAh 100C

For this test, I compared the Hoovo 4S 5200mAh 100C pack against an HRB 4S 5000mAh 50C pack using a continuous 105A load test. The goal was simple: determine which battery delivers the most usable power and capacity under demanding conditions.

The pricing is also worth noting. The Hoovo sells for $92.99 USD for a two-pack, which works out to roughly $46.50 per battery. Meanwhile, the HRB comes in just under $60 USD per pack. While the Hoovo is the cheaper option, performance ultimately determines value.

Performance Analysis

The results clearly favor the HRB battery. At the start of the discharge, the HRB produced 1,643 watts compared with 1,493 watts from the Hoovo. While that difference is noticeable, the gap widened as the test continued.

After 10 seconds, the HRB maintained a 16% power advantage. By the 30-second mark, that lead grew to 24%. This indicates that the HRB held its voltage much better under load, allowing it to continue delivering strong power throughout the discharge cycle.

Most importantly, the HRB delivered 4,134mAh of usable capacity before reaching cutoff voltage. In contrast, the Hoovo managed only 908mAh under the same conditions. That difference is substantial. Although the Hoovo is rated at 5200mAh, it was unable to maintain the required load long enough to access most of its advertised capacity.

Which Battery Should You Buy?

If your RC vehicle draws high current or you enjoy speed runs, the HRB is the easy recommendation. It delivers more power, maintains voltage better, and provides significantly more usable capacity under heavy loads.

On the other hand, the Hoovo still has a place in the hobby. Because it costs less, it can be a reasonable option for lower-power vehicles that rarely approach 100A. In those situations, the performance limitations may never become noticeable.

However, when comparing overall value, the HRB comes out ahead. Even though it costs slightly more, the improvement in power delivery and usable capacity is significant enough to justify the extra expense.

Final Thoughts

This comparison shows why advertised C ratings should not be the only factor when choosing a battery. Despite carrying a lower 50C rating, the HRB substantially outperformed the Hoovo in every performance category that mattered during this 105A load test.

For drivers looking for the best combination of power, runtime, and real-world performance, the HRB is the clear winner.
