For more than a year and a half, I’ve been trying to get my hands on one of these high-end ONYX RC Power Systems LiPo packs. A number of you have also been asking me about ONYX and wanting to see one put through the RCexplained battery testing.
Well… it’s finally here.
The pack I received is a 4S 5000mAh ONYX LiPo, marketed toward extreme speed/drag applications. The label carries a very aggressive 150–250C rating—which, as many of you already know, is exactly the kind of claim I like putting to the test.
And ONYX isn’t positioned as a budget battery. This is a premium/high-end pack, so my expectations are going to be high.
The big questions are going to be:
- How low is the internal resistance?
- How well does it hold voltage under a serious load?
- How much usable capacity does it actually deliver?
- How much heat does it generate?
- And most importantly… does its performance justify its reputation and price?
